Effective pain relieving needling techniques - Trigger points and beyond

General course description

In this three-day course you will learn effective acupuncture pain relieving needling techniques connected to joints, the muscular-skeletal and fascia systems, and nerve tissue. You will learn to understand the nature of pain, thought and emotion from Chinese and Western perspectives. You will also learn to apply treatment protocol combinations of Five phase acupuncture, TCM and Western medical acupuncture into clinical practise. All points and techniques will be explained from a scientific viewpoint with the related anatomical and physiological features, and from a Chinese medical perspective.

Course outline from day to day

Day one: Theory

• Understanding of pain.
• Trigger point therapy.
• Spinal nerves and areas of innervation and the use of Hua Tuo´s Jiaji points.
• Tapping techniques.
• Influential muscular points including anatomy and function of muscles described in treatment protocols.
• Muscular and myofascial connection to meridians and organs.
• Emotional responses when treating muscles.
• Treatment protocols for knees, hips, sacroiliac joint and lower back.

Day one: Demonstrations and practical work

• Applying regional treatment for problems relating to knees, hips, and lower back.
• Locating trigger points including palpation and needling. 
• Spinal nerve stimulation of dermatomes, myotomes and sclerotomes through Hua Tuo´s Jiaji points.
• Tapping techniques at muscle attachments.

Day two: Theory

• Repetition of day one.
• Influential muscular points including anatomy and function of muscles described in treatment protocols.
• Muscular and myofascial connection to meridians and organs.
• Treatment protocols for neck, shoulders and arms.

Day two: Demonstrations and practical work

• Applying regional treatment for problems relating to neck, shoulders and arms.
• Spinal nerve stimulation to neck, shoulders and arms.
• Locating explained trigger points including palpation and needling. 
• Tapping techniques at muscle attachments.

Day three: Theory

• Repetition from day two.
• Treatment protocols for head and face. 
• Influential muscular points including anatomy and function of muscles described in treatment protocols.
• Muscular and myofascial connection to meridians and organs.

Day three: Demonstrations and practical work

• Applying regional treatment for problems relating to head and face.
• Spinal nerve stimulation to the head and face. 
• Locating explained trigger points and Motor points including palpation and needling. 
• Tapping techniques at muscle attachments.

Day three: Live demonstration

• Demonstration on an outside patient on how to treat in accordance with explained techniques during the three days. 

Learning the techniques

During the three-day course, participants will practice all techniques demonstrated. The course contains a lot of practical work palpating and needling to ensure security and quality when using the techniques. Subsequent participants will be able to integrate these into practice for immediate use.
