Koko WEI

KoKo Wei is born and has grown up in P.R. China. In 2003 she has accomplished a 5 year study majoring in integrative western and Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in Chengdu TCM University and received her bachelor degree of medicine. Afterwards, she has worked one year as an internship doctor in diabetes department of university medical center. During her internship in hospital, KoKo Wei developed an interest to western nutrition and would like to pursue a way to combine Chinese medical philosophy, western nutrition and system biology research techniques to prevent people from life-style associated diseases.

In 2005, she has started to study in Wageningen University in the Netherlands and fulfilled her Master degree of science in Human nutrition and health in 2007.


Right now, KoKo continues her scientific journey as a PhD student in TNO and Leiden University, under the research project ‘system biology based development of novel diagnostic markers in metabolomics for Diabetes type 2 sub-phenotypes’.

She is also the member of Sino-Dutch Center for Preventive and Personalized Medicine, whose main objective is to enhance scientific evidence for Chinese medicine based diagnosis and intervention using cutting-edge system-based metabolomics tools, and set up scientific cooperation between The Netherlands and China.
